Hawaii School Teacher and Staff ANONYMOUS Survey and Questionnaire

Hawaii School Teacher and Staff ANONYMOUS Survey and Questionnaire

The American Academy of Pediatrics recently came out with an updated statement regarding the reopening of schools. The AAP states,“Local school leaders, public health experts, educators and parents must be at the center of decisions about how and when to reopen schools, taking into account the spread of COVID-19 in their communities and the capacities of school districts to adapt safety protocols to make in-person learning safe and feasible."

HICOVID is a Hawai'i COVID19 Healthcare Provider Task Force with the purpose of aligning healthcare workers, providers, and scientists in Hawai’i in the fight against COVID-19. Our goal is to work together, with our community, to save lives in Hawai’i. We, at HICOVID, are curious and concerned about the school systems in Hawai'i. We recognize that some educators and assistive staff (i.e. Private and Charter schools) don't have access to representation or a Union. We want to help their voices be heard. The school administrators at these institutions seem to be in agreement that they have the resources to safely go back to face-to-face school learning. However, there have been reports from our “coconut wireless” channels that teachers at these schools are questioning the lack of clear guidance and support in the reopening plans. They are concerned about their safety and the safety of the children at these schools, as well as, the possibility of contributing to the spread of COVID19 in the community. This is an anonymous survey to all school teachers and staff to get at their perspective on their school reopening plans and preparedness. As the AAP mentions, we must hear from all the stakeholders, including the teachers and staff who have much to give, but also much to lose, if school reopening isn't done correctly.
